33 Blue Room (Petaling Jaya)

It was a surprise to find this new restaurant nested within a light industrial area in PJ 51A.  The place gives a cozy feeling with light jazzy music and a wall of wine bottles with nostalgic-type pictures at the side, which fits the name of the restaurant ... "The Blue Room".  It is comfortable sitting and enjoying the meal in there.  This is a conducive environment for some private and chilled gathering.  The staffs were quite friendly as well.  There are also sitting arrangements on the second floor that overlooks some parts of the ground floor for some added privacy.  Most of the dishes on the menu are porky-related and it can be enjoyed with their selection of wines.

The mushroom soup tastes decent with a slice of bacon and bread.  The strongness of the mushroom taste can be further improved whilst a few more chunky mushroom cubes would be good as well.  The bacon is a nice addition to enhance the taste of the soup.

The first impression of the Grilled Pork Steak is normal enough, but one bite into the tender and juicy meat will definitely impress, truly enjoyable.  The marination is sufficient with enough balance between meat and fats that blends well.  The accompanying sauce is not much to shout about, but still gave a nice touch to the meat.  Not to forget is the balsamic vinegered-salad at the side, which will balance the meaty taste bud.

The lunch set comes with a complimentary lemon tea drink (hot or cold) using Twinings tea.  It shows the restaurant does not compromise on their food quality.

WILL WE COME BACK? - Yes
(nice food with a nice ambience.  We hope the dinner session is accompanied with a live jazz band, probably something to check out in our next trip there.)

Fukuya (Kuala Lumpur)

Fukuya is popular for its kaiseki set (traditional multi-course Japanese meal), where dishes are determined by the chef who will serve ingredients that are fresh for the season.  Therefore, there will always be a surprise. Customers should inform the staff if there are any ingredients to avoid, e.g. beef, nuts, etc.  The lunch set comprise 7 courses (excluding dessert) covering various ways of cooking (appetiser, soup, sashimi, grilled, simmered, fried, etc), whilst dinner has 9 courses.  There are also many other ala carte options to choose from.

The 7-course Mini Kaiseki set is more than enough for an average person and each are served individually one after the other, so that one will have time to enjoy each and every dish that is served.  Portions are typical of a fine dining meal and yet creatively presented.  The friendly staff will explain as each dishes are served.  Some interesting dishes to note are the bite-size mousse that tastes like sea urchin and the chawanmushi with a small portion of sharks fin on top.  Sashimi slices are generously thick, fresh and accompanied by freshly grounded wasabi.  All these for only RM65++.

Another lunch set worth trying is the Fuku-Fuku set which come with a choice of two mains and it comes along appetiser, salad, chawanmushi, rice, pickles, miso soup and dessert.  The cube cut beef steak is tender and moist and come with a unique orange sauce.

WILL WE COME BACK? - Yes
(being surprised at each visit as what's fresh for the season are served and presented in a creative and artistic way)
